FAQ

Things I get asked all the time.

These are the questions most families have before they reach out. If yours isn't here, the free discovery call is a good place to start.

What does a postpartum doula actually do?

I come to your home and handle whatever your family needs that day. That might mean holding your baby while you nap, preparing a warm meal, helping you navigate a difficult latch, talking through a hard night, or just being a calm presence in a house that feels turned upside down. Before each visit I ask what you need. Then I do that thing.

How is a postpartum doula different from a baby nurse or nanny?

A baby nurse or nanny focuses almost entirely on the baby. My focus is the whole family — you, your baby, your recovery, your confidence, and your relationship with the new life you're building. I'm DONA International certified, trained in lactation support through UC San Diego, and trained in postpartum nutrition through Postpartum University. I'm also a former paramedic and counselor, which means I bring a different kind of attentiveness to the work.

When should I reach out — before or after the baby arrives?

Before, if you can. Most families start the conversation four to six weeks before their due date. I take a limited number of families each month, and I'd rather have time to get to know you before you're exhausted and in the thick of it. That said, if your baby is already here, reach out anyway. I've started with families in week one and I've started with families in month three. It's never too late.

How many hours do families typically use?

It depends entirely on what you need. Some families want two or three visits in the first week — intensive support during the hardest days. Others book ongoing weekly visits through the first few months. My Nesting Period package offers a full month of structured support. If you're not sure, the free discovery call is the right place to start — we'll figure out what makes sense for your family together.

Do you do overnight support?

Yes. Overnight support is one of the most impactful things I offer. I take the night feedings, handle the settling, and let you sleep in another room — uninterrupted. Families who add even two or three overnight visits in the first two weeks describe it as transformative. Sleep changes everything.

Can my HSA or FSA cover postpartum doula services?

Postpartum doula services may be eligible for reimbursement through your HSA or FSA. Coverage varies by plan — I recommend checking with your benefits administrator or HSA/FSA provider directly. Many families are surprised to find out this is an option. I'm happy to provide documentation for your claim.

Do you travel to my home?

Yes — always. I come to you. I serve families throughout the NH Seacoast, southern Maine, and northeastern Massachusetts, within roughly 30 miles of Hampton, NH. If you're just outside that radius, reach out anyway. I take on families outside my standard area when my schedule allows.

What if I don't know exactly what I need?

That's the most common way families start. You don't need to have the right words or a clear picture of what help looks like. Book a free 30-minute call and just tell me where you are. I'll ask a few questions and help you figure out what support would actually serve your family. There's no obligation and no pressure.
